Journal 3
Digital diary entry
#2 Use your heart and not your eyes.
November and December have been the most unhinged months of 2024, filled with laughter and tears, although not necessarily mine. In honor of one of the best (& most precious!) memories, I will be documenting my canoeing experience in this journal entry.

11/16-11/17 Canoeing at Sun Moon Lake🌊🚣♀️
Possibly one of the most memorable experiences with friends during sophomore year. The PE teacher teaching our freshman year class held a canoeing activity at Sun Moon Lake, and I had the opportunity to go with my friends.
The bus ride there was super uncomfortable because of my motion sickness, but right after we arrived, the vibes and the views are just so worth it. We went grocery shopping since our camping site had no market or shop nearby, and the teacher drove us to the port. I was a bit worried because our campsite required us to go by craft, but the worries immediately disappeared right after I hopped on. The lake water made the craft ride steady, and I did not get seasick at all.
After we got to the campsite, we organized our luggage and started cooking. More specifically it is my friend Mochi who did most of the cooking, and I am beside her doing the dishes. One funny thing is that we realized that there are no spices and seasonings at the site, and we got so happy when someone found a bottle of MSG. We went canoeing right after getting our stomachs full, and this is also my first time canoeing! I want to thank Nora for instructing me this whole time because I was confused at first.
I was exhausted from all the (unfamiliar) rowing and went to sleep, before getting barbecue as dinner. We were singing karaoke and drinking beer (except for me bc I don’t drink;;), and we saw fireworks going off on the other side of the lake, which was a pleasant surprise. My friends and I got lucky and switched to a less crowded room, so we slept rather peacefully.
At 5 am we got up and immediately went to prepare for another canoe session. I was super sleepy at first, but did not regret at all. Although it was a bit rainy, the sky started to clear up and the soft sunlight gave off a warm ambiance. Soon, a rainbow formed in the distance. It was so vibrant and beautiful that it almost felt unreal, and I just happened to bring my phone with me to capture that. Floating on a canoe while taking in the view will forever be a precious memory for me.
Before heading back, we took the craft to Ita Thau Pier to get our lunch. The weather is so nice that day and roaming on the streets felt really chill, and I took the opportunity to buy some local treats as a gift to my parents. We did not have much time and got on our way back after lunch, we were all exhausted and some even felt hungover. I am glad that I did not puke on the bus ride because the hills and road conditions there were something else. I immediately went to sleep after arriving at the dorm, with all the memories stored in my phone and my brain.
